Soul Jazz Records presents New Orleans Funk: The Original Sound of Funk

Finding good records often gives one the urge to spread the good word. Ever since starting this blog and my other on Footurama, I've pledged myself topost any note-worthy records I happen to stumble accross for anyone bored enough to read.

While The Hague often falls short in the crate digging departement, you do stumble accross some interesting vinyl now and then such as this New Orleans Funk 1960-1975 compilation by Soul Jazz Records at LaLaLand Record Store in The Hague city centre.

As the sub-title proclaims, New Orleans: The Original Sound of Funk, is funk roots at its best. Always known as a hub of musical innovation with its brand of jazz, soul, funk and these days hip-hop, this handy compilation goes back to the early sixties up to the mid-seventies highlighting New Orleans' greatest cultural exports of the time: Aaron Neville, The Meters, Professor Longhair, Huey 'Piano' Smith & His Clowns, Dr. John, The Gaturs and countless others.
